Sara Shanahan, vice chair of the firm's Litigation Department and co-chair of the firm’s Social Media and Digital Technology practice group was quoted in the July 20th issue of the Boston Business Journal. The article, “Lawyers say social media poses risks for clients,” discusses why users should exercise caution when posting messages and status updates to avoid potentially revealing self-incriminating information that can be used in future lawsuits.
From the article:
“You’re seeing with Twitter and Facebook that people are increasingly careless about what they put in writing,” said Sara Shanahan, vice chair of Boston-based Sherin and Lodgen’s litigation department and co-chair of the business litigation and social media and digital technology practice groups.
And while lawyers don’t want their own clients spouting off on Twitter, the wealth of information available online about people these days can be also be a huge help to trial lawyers.
“It used to be when you deposed a witness, that was (the first time) first you could see them in real time. But now you can find them on Facebook and LinkedIn,” and find out about their everyday lives, said Shanahan.
