La Liberte, chairman of Boston law firm Sherin and Lodgen's Litigation Department and of the Creditors' Rights Group, said the bankruptcy code allows debtors, such as General Growth, a period of time to decide whether to assume the lease. In the meantime, the city can petition the court to make sure General Growth honors its obligations under the lease, such as properly maintaining the property."
