As of October 1, 2006, such employers with eleven or more full-time-equivalent (“FTE”) employees are required to contribute a maximum of $295 per employee per year, known as the “Fair Share Contribution,” to the Commonwealth Care Trust Fund. Abbott Homes Fund I closes $1,250,000 line of credit from HCReit Sherin and Lodgen LLP recently closed a $1,250,000 line of credit for its client, Abbott Homes Fund I, an affiliate of Abbot Real Estate Development, LLC. The line was granted by HCReit, a national REIT that specializes in health care related real estate. HCReit has committed $100 million to our client for the development of age-restricted residential projects in New England. On July 21, 2006, in the case of Lena A. Humphrey v. Florence Byron, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court held that a commercial landlord does not have a duty to maintain leased premises in a "safe condition" unless he expressly undertakes to do so in the lease.

RMS Secures Largest Timberland Purchase In History We congratulate an investor group led by our client, Resource Management Service, LLC, based in Birmingham, AL, on its agreement to buy 4.2 million acres of timberland from International Paper Company in a transaction valued at $5 billion. Renewed Concerns About Privacy The recent inadvertent disclosure of customer confidential information by the Boston Globe highlights the need for companies, schools, non-profits and others who maintain confidential information of their customers, students, donors or for third parties to re-evaluate their privacy and security policies. As was evident, anyone who maintains confidential information must focus on both technology controls (limiting access to confidential information, limiting print outs of credit card information to last 4 digits, etc.), as well as policies for personnel to follow with respect to confidential information (for example, shredding confidential information before disposing of it). Judicial Review of Arbitration Awards Frank J. Bailey has written an article for the January newsletter of the Business Litigation Section of the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC). The article explores the scope of judicial review of arbitration awards and recent developments which may alter the scope of that review. The article focuses on a recent case from the First Circuit Court of Appeals.
