Congratulations to our client, The Trustees of Reservations, on the purchase of new conservation land in Natick, Massachusetts near Pegan Hill

Congratulations to our client, The Trustees of Reservations (The Trustees), on the purchase of new conservation land in Natick, Massachusetts near Pegan Hill. The purchase will allow the Trustees to more than double the existing 32-acre Pegan Hill Reservation.

The Trustees acquired the 16-acre 193 Pegan Lane parcel in December 2015 and conveyed a conservation restriction to the Town of Natick in March, permanently protecting it from development and providing public access.

The Sherin and Lodgen team was led by Bethany A. Bartlett, partner in the firm’s Real Estate Department, and Beth A. Goldstein, associate in the firm’s Real Estate Department.

This acquisition is part of a cooperative conservation effort also involving the Dover Land Conservation Trust (DLCT) to create a new corridor of conservation land between The Trustees’ Pegan Hill Reservation and Mumford Wildlife Forest owned by the New England Forestry Foundation. DLCT acquired an adjacent 24 acres in October 2015. With the two conservation projects complete, 40 acres total have been protected from future development and will be now be open for the first time, to the public for passive recreation and creating a missing link to the scenic Charles River Link Trail, a 16-mile trail that extends from Newton to the Bay Circuit Trail in Medfield and traverses a portion of Pegan Hill before veering west into the Mumford Wildlife Forest.

The Trustees preserves, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, agricultural, and ecological value in Massachusetts and currently maintains more than 27,000 acres across Massachusetts. A leader in land conservation and protection, The Trustees hold conservation restrictions on more than 20,000 acres, more than any other entity in the state, and have worked with community partners to help protect another 25,000 acres across the Commonwealth.
