Thomas F. Maffei quoted in Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly article on the Rules of Professional Conduct
Thomas F. Maffei, of counsel in the firm’s Litigation Department, was quoted in a Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly article on July 25, 2019. The article, “Bad advice, unethical conduct alleged in murky legal-mal case,” details an on-going case, which dates back to 1996, in which an unorthodox and arguably unethical ex parte meeting with a judge may greatly complicate a North Shore attorney’s defense against an ex-client’s malpractice.
From the article:
Boston legal malpractice attorney Thomas F. Maffei says the Rules of Professional Conduct are clear that accepting a guilty plea is one of the circumstances in which the client is supposed to be making the final call. Agreeing to a civil settlement is the other.
