Meet Bethany Bartlett

General Counsel and Vice President, Kearsarge Energy

Bethany Bartlett headshotBethany joined Kearsarge Energy in March 2020, after over a decade with Sherin and Lodgen, where she was chair of the firm’s Renewable Energy Practice Group and partner in its Real Estate Department. Her practice focused on the development, acquisition, disposition, and financing of commercial solar and storage projects throughout the country, with a specialty concentration in representing debt lenders in complex investment tax credit financing transactions.

Q: How did you get your start in the Renewable Energy industry?

A: Serendipity. Around 2008, while at Sherin and Lodgen, my mentor and current managing partner Doug Henry nominated me to kick off a solar practice group at the firm. I’ve been involved in the industry ever since.

Q: Since then, have you seen a shift in female representation in Renewable Energy?

A: Yes, in my interactions within the industry. I have seen more women employed by developers and consultants, including senior roles, but the industry should continue to focus on increasing diversity and inclusion.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a woman in the industry?

A: To make an effort to network with other women in the industry, as well as mentor the next generation. Renewable Energy, as an industry, is booming and I see a lot of interest in the area from women just starting out on their career. This is a great opportunity for us to continue to strengthen our numbers.

Q: What is the most rewarding aspect of working in an industry as booming, and vital, as Renewable Energy?

A: A sense of pride that I am helping in some way to combat the global crisis of climate change and being a good steward of our environment. The push for renewables and reducing our carbon footprint is critical to saving our natural resources.
