Congratulations to our client, Citizens Energy Corporation, on beginning construction of the Daughters of Mary Microgrid Project

By Sherin and Lodgen on May 4, 2021

Sherin and Lodgen represented Citizens Energy Corporation in their first joint resiliency project with Schneider Electric – an advanced microgrid that will serve four critical facilities on the campus of The Daughters of Mary of the Immaculate Conception in New Britain, Connecticut. Construction on the microgrid began earlier this month.

Citizens used the Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) business model, which allows construction to be completed without any up-front costs to the Daughters of Mary. Separate power purchase agreements help pay for the microgrid through lower cost, clean energy generation. The Project was also awarded a State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) Microgrid Design & Installation Grant for Critical Facilities.

Beth A. Goldstein, chair, and Tanya M. Larrabee, associate, both of the firm’s Renewable Energy Practice Group, represented Citizens Energy in the development stage of the project.

Citizens Energy Corporation, a Boston-based non-profit energy company, was founded in 1979 by former U.S. Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy II. Under his leadership as Chairman and President, Citizens Energy has compiled a 40+ year history of channeling revenues from successful energy ventures in oil, natural gas, electricity trading, energy efficiency and conservation, transmission, wind power, solar arrays as well as energy storage and microgrids to programs that help the poor.

Schneider Electric is the global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, committed to empowering all to make the most of energy and resources, bridging progress and sustainability for all.
