Human Resources Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for planning and administering firm benefits and policies, employee recruiting, onboarding, engagement, and evaluations, and day-to-day HR administration, continuously looking for opportunities to streamline and improve HR processes and reporting.

As a member of the firm’s administrative team, this position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Accounting Manager and Payroll Administrator to deliver high-quality service to all firm employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, personnel records, job descriptions, and reporting comply, updating where needed. Maintain active membership in SHRM and NEHRA to stay abreast of developments.
  • Lead recruitment process for attorneys and staff, liaising with recruiters, managing job postings, coordinating interviews and overall hiring process.
  • Manage the firm’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts.
  • Day-to-day management of the firm’s HRIS system, with an eye towards streamlining HR functions and reporting.
  • Manage new employee orientation process, draft onboarding schedules, conduct benefits overviews, etc., including refining existing processes and implementing new technologies where needed. Monitor new staff progress. Conduct staff exit interviews and prepare related documentation.
  • Liaise with firm’s insurance brokers and assist Executive Director with benefit renewals, monthly billings, and budgets.
  • Manage administration of the firm’s retirement plans and related reporting requirements, responding to benefit inquiries and changes from employees.
  • Lead the firm’s employee engagement and recognition activities and communications, including working with Marketing on internal events and internal communications.
  • Document and advise the Executive Director of employee relations issues.
  • Approve, coordinate, and track staff PTO time with Director of Operations and Lead Legal Assistants and assist in staff scheduling and work/attorney assignments.
  • Manage the year-end evaluation and review process for non-legal staff and attorneys.
  • With the Executive Director, suggest and plan regular employee training.

This is a hybrid role that requires four days in the firm’s downtown Boston office.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years related human resources experience in a professional services workplace.
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office products, benefit maintenance systems, and HRIS systems

Skill Set and Abilities

  • Ability to identify and analyze complex issues and problems and organize and prioritize tasks. Excellent project management skills, managing projects from inception to completion, with strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Creative problem solver comfortable suggesting new ideas
  • Must have excellent judgment and maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and written skills.
  • Must be process-oriented with an ability to utilize technology to add efficiency to processes.
